Nvidia's latest GeForce GTX 960 graphics card delivers impressive performance for 1080p gamers at the £170 price point common on partner-overclocked models. At present there are an overwhelming number of variations to choose from delivered by Nvidia's various GPU partners. In an attempt to stand out from that crowd EVGA is launching a cashback program to sweeten the deal for prospective GTX 960 owners.

The EVGA cashback program applies to the EVGA GTX 960 Super SuperClocked (SSC) - part number O2G-P4-2966-KR - that is the company's second-tier GTX 960, bested only by the dearer FTW model. This GTX 960 SSC makes use of EVGA's ACX version 2.0+ cooling solution and ships with a factory overclock of around 150MHz.

In our review of the EVGA GTX 960 SSC graphics cards we found it delivered impressive acoustic performance, thanks to a hybrid fan mode, and excellent overclocking potential thus making it well-suited for 1080p gamers and older PCs in need of a gaming upgrade.

As part of the promotion EVGA will deliver €20 (£15) cashback to buyers through PayPal or the equivalent amount for residents of the EU, EEA and Switzerland who are also eligible for the offer. HEXUS readers can purchase the EVGA GTX 960 SSC from Scan Computers for around £170, including free shipping, thus lowering the effective price to around £155 once cashback has been factored in. A full list of terms and conditions and participating retailers can be found on the EVGA website, here.

It's probable that the weakening euro currency is causing headaches for etailers who need to increase prices in order to maintain profit margins when the core products are purchased with US dollars. EVGA is hoping a £150-ish overclocked GeForce GTX 960 makes implicit sense, particularly when backed by a transferable 3-year warranty, step-up upgrade program, and decent performance. Question is, do you agree?

I already have one of these installed.
Will they send me £15 if I ask nicely?
I've never understood the idea of these cashback offers. Why don't they just lower the price by the same amount? Would be a LOT simpler for customers.

I suppose they rely on some customers not knowing / not bothering with the cash back

Because the retailer has already purchased the stock they own. If the retailer reduces it by £15, they lose out. EVGA is offering the discount, not the retailer.

I wondered the same thing. So I guess you answered it. But then, that leaves me wondering, why doesn't the retailer just sell it cheaper and claim the cashback from EVGA on each sale instead of the customer…
