Press invites have gone out for an AMD GPU ‘14 Tech Day next week in Hawaii. However, there’s no need to worry if you want to see the news, as it breaks, but are not able to make it to the famous Pacific island resort. AMD will be providing a live webcast of the event on its investor relations pages and also a replay of the webcast will be available, about an hour after the event concludes, on the AMD YouTube channel and AMD Gaming Facebook page.

Aloha

Without taxing our Sherlock skills too much we are expecting the launch of AMD’s new GPUs featuring the Hawaii architecture at the event, which takes place on 25 September 2013 at 3 pm EDT (that’s 8pm here in London).

Earlier in the week AMD's Matt Skynner talked to Forbes in more specific terms, about what will be revealed next Wednesday. The main points exposed by Skynner include:

  • The new GPU range will be made using the 28nm process node. “At 28nm for an enthusiast GPU, we can achieve higher clock speeds and higher absolute performance,” said Skynner.
  • The Hawaii architecture is “extremely efficient” and the GPU die will be 30 per cent smaller than the Nvidia Kepler GK110, for example. AMD says it will be offering the “best performance for the die size for the enthusiast GPU”.
  • The new generation of GPUs will target “the enthusiast market versus the ultra-enthusiast one”. Skynner spells out that there are no intentions to create a $1k single GPU offering type of product as AMD want to address the “traditional enthusiast GPU” market.
  • The new cards will be available in Q4.

In addition to the AMD GPU hardware TweakTown writes that EA’s Battlefield 4 will feature heavily on the day, perhaps announced as part of the Radeon Rewards scheme with the new graphic cards. Rumours are even going around that a Hawaii based aircraft carrier will be involved in some promotional activity during the day itself...

Rest assured Tarinder from HEXUS will be there, at AMD’s GPU ‘14 Tech Day event on the beautiful volcanic island of Hawaii, to bring you the graphics thrills and spills.

I'm hope for a proper cost to performance replacement for my 6970, which was just right at the Ā£280 mark I paid for mine.
The 7 series has not been worth its bang for buck ratio in my view.
Been waiting for these, either they will be great or I'll pickup a 780.
Rest assured Tarinder from HEXUS will be there … on the beautiful volcanic island of Hawaii ….

I am SO in the wrong job :( ;)

Have a great time Tarinder - bring us back a present!
I'm really looking forward to seeing a new GPU lineup, it seems like an age since the 7000 series came out.
