Taking a look at ATI's current DX10 line-up, the £125 Radeon HD 3870 is bettered by only one model - the twin-GPU Radeon HD 3870 X2, e-tailing at around £250.

The significant financial gap that exists between the two is partially plugged by special-edition Radeon HD 3870s, such as the Sapphire Radeon 3870 ATOMIC.

However, ATI's partners have no compelling solution at the £200 mark, which is currently dominated by the GeForce 8800 GTS 512 GPU.

Now, though, reports are surfacing that ATI is giving its partners free rein to engineer twin-GPU cards based on the cheaper Radeon HD 3850 SKU.

We'd expect the card to retail at around £200 and offer performance that, obviously, sat in-between the single-GPU Radeon HD 3870 and X2.

Taking educated guesses, the card's two GPUs would be clocked in at around 700MHz and would use low-cost GDDR3 memory - either 512MiB or 1GiB in total - running at around 1.8GHz. Expect to see the likes of Sapphire and GeCube showcase such cards at COMPUTEX this year, held in early June.
