The SilverStone Raven RVZ01 was first revealed at the CES last month. Now we have just heard that this chassis, which supports mini-ITX and DTX motherboards, will be available in retail this week priced at £50 / €68.

The new SilverStone Raven RVZ01 is the successor to 2008's Raven RV01. SilverStone informs us that the 2014 Raven design team's goal was an ambitious one: "to exceed and reshape the small form factor landscape with another breakthrough case design." Key specs of the RVZ01 which the designers put forward to show they have achieved their goal include the fact that this SFF chassis can accommodate "the biggest consumer graphics card on the market with superb air cooling performance and the ability to support liquid cooling".

RVZ01 Specifications

  • Model No: SST-RVZ01B (black)
  • Material: Reinforced plastic outer shell, steel body
  • Motherboard: DTX, Mini-ITX
  • Drive Bay: External Slim slot-loading optical x 1, Internal 3.5-inch x 1, 2.5-inch x 3
  • Cooling System: Top 1 x 120mm fan, 1500rpm, 18dBA, Bottom 1 x 120mm fan, 1500rpm, 18dBA, 1 x 120mm fan slot
  • Expansion Slot: 2
  • Front I/O Port: USB 3.0 x 2, audio x 1, MIC x 1
  • Power Supply: SFX

  • Limitation of CPU cooler: 83mm
  • Net Weight: 3.71kg
  • Dimension: 382mm (W) x 105mm (H) x 350mm (D), 14 liters

As you can see from the specs above, you can fit in a graphics card up to 330mm (13-inch) long into this SFF chassis. Also of interest to performance pushing PC enthusiasts will be the good array of cooling possibilities, including liquid cooling support. A 'positive air pressure' design means that the RVZ01 should provide good cooling performance, with dust-prevention characteristics.

It's good to see that you can easily install an ODD drive as many SFF cases simply remove the 5.25-inch bay required with no internal alternative. SilverStone has thoughtfully left room for a slot-loading laptop-style ODD next to where the power supply is fitted. TheRVZ01 chassis can be stood vertically or horizontally.

Am I the only one that is mega excited about this! At last a chassis that can fit dual slot graphics and is not really fat like most mini-ITX cases. At least gives us an alternative to the ludicrously overpriced M8…
I'm not super keen on the exterior styling but it looks like a job well done designing the interior.
Definitely a welcome addition to the mini-ITX selection. My home builds will be focusing on this forma factor in the future. The old ATX/micro ATX is just dinosaur huge.
Hmm… It's not really that small, is it? And while you can install a slim slot-in optical disc drive, those properties seriously narrow the selection. The Sugo SG10 suffers from the same problem, sadly.
I wonder if it's worth waiting for the ML07, just don't want to be waiting ages for it though. I don't understand why they don't just release the ML07 and the RVZ01 at the same time as it uses the same internal chassis.

I guess I could always just buy the RVZ01 for now and just give it to my brother once the ML07 comes out.

As asrael said, unfortunately these are not that small but I can't see any other slim cases with this form factor supporting a SFX PSU and a long graphics card with decent ventilation for under Ā£100. Although something like a Sugo SG05 has a smaller internal volume (Around 10.8L vs this one which is at around 14.2L - making this 30% larger volume wise) it however takes up a bigger footprint due to it having 3 almost equal lengths whereas this case is pretty thin so that means you can have it in a TV cabinet or if you stand it up, you take the least amount of horizontal footprint (but the most vertical but generally this is not an issue on desks). Hopefully that makes sense.

For me, my desk is rather cramped and I don't like to put my PC on the floor, so with this case, I can simply stand it up behind my monitor and save a lot of space.
