PRESS RELEASE

Users running Bitdefender antimalware products assured of a smooth transition as Windows offers free upgrade to PCs running Windows 7, 8 & 8.1

Microsoft has today launched Windows 10, the largest overhaul of the Windows operating system to date. To support this announcement Bitdefender, the innovative security solutions provider, has enhanced its existing product line to ensure that it works flawlessly with the new operating system and that consumers and businesses alike can use their upgraded systems without being compromised.

The new security features in Windows 10 include the new browser Edge and Windows Hello, a two-factor authentication system. It also includes biometric features such as fingerprint, iris or facial recognition, as well as Device Guard and other mechanisms for controlling the installation of programs that are aimed primarily towards business. For private users, an improved Windows Defender promises more protection than before.

Catalin Cosoi, Chief Security Strategist at Bitdefender, states, “For the enterprise, one of the most important features of Windows 10 is the possibility to lock down devices and instruct them to only allow the installation of applications that are digitally signed with a either a Microsoft-provided certificate or a certificate that belongs to the company.”

“While this approach will somewhat limit the impact on enterprises that work with a minimal set of applications, consumers will have to face the same digital challenges they have got used to in recent years,” continues Catalin Cosoi. “The use of a robust antimalware solution is paramount as the number of threats continues to rise.”

Immediately after upgrading from an outdated operating system, an antimalware product will likely be disabled if it is deemed incompatible with Windows 10. If a vendor has a version that is compatible, users will receive a prompt asking to upgrade the current security solution. For those running a Bitdefender antimalware product, this will be a smooth transition, as users’ license keys and account information will not be lost during the upgrade. After only one click and a fast download, the most innovative security solution of the year will be up and running on users’ brand-new operating systems.
