SKYPE GOES THE EXTRA MILE TO CONNECT ITS GLOBAL COMMUNITY

Extras and Public Chat features inspire more people to stay in touch with their friends and meet new ones along the way

LUXEMBOURG, 13th December, 2006 – Skype, the global Internet communications company, today announced Skype™ 3.0 for Windows, introducing a whole range of Skype features designed to bring its global community to your doorstep. The new version of Skype introduces exciting new features including Extras and Public Chats. While Extras now allows you to play games with friends and family all over the world, Public Chats connects you to people in Skype’s global community that share similar interests.

Today, Internet communications is more than just making voice calls over the Internet. It is about bringing communities together and Skype users worldwide can now talk, listen, watch, read, write and share files, photos and links with any of their Skype contacts around the world.

With Extras, you can now play backgammon with one of your friends or share your musical tastes by showing what you’re listening to on LastFM in your mood message. Mood messages are an increasingly popular Skype feature. They allow users to create conversations and explain how they are feeling and what they are doing with their friends and families, no matter where they happen to be.

Stefan Oberg, GM of Telecoms & Desktop for Skype says “Skype is about freeing communication on a global scale. Since the beginning we have enabled free conversations between friends and family – people that know each other. “

“With Skype 3.0 and features like Public Chats, we are making it easier for people to make new friends and meet others that share a common interest from a global community of more than 136 million Skype users.”

The Skype community is coming alive with Public Chats, allowing users to join in multi-person community conversations and discussions. Any Skype user can join these chats and meet new people who share the same interests. Whether you like to exchange ideas or discuss music, politics or pets, Skype makes it possible to talk about everything with like-minded people. Public Chats are paving the way to freer conversations across Skype’s global community and bringing Skype users closer together every step of the way.
