PRESS RELEASE

Taipei, Taiwan, April 29, 2016 – QNAP® Systems, Inc. has redefined NAS for IoT and will be showcasing its grand vision of “NAS as Private IoT Cloud Platform” at IoT World 2016 – at Santa Clara Convention Center, Silicon Valley, California.

QNAP’s NAS has catapulted the company to a commanding leadership position by offering the broadest lineup of products and solutions that are feature-packed yet affordable for home users, SMBs, and enterprises. QNAP now envisions “QIoT Containers” – a Private IoT Cloud Platform based on QNAP NAS – to prove that NAS, with its diversified applications, is more than just a storage management device. This platform is primarily targeted towards IoT application developers.

IoT (Internet of Things) is the next big IT revolution and multiple public cloud platform providers such as Amazon® and Microsoft® are extending their product portfolio to public IoT cloud platforms. “QNAP is bringing QIoT Containers to complement these public IoT cloud platforms,” said Amol Narkhede, Product Manager of QNAP. “With QIoT Containers, developers can design their own private IoT cloud platform, and can be up and running within a few minutes.”

QIoT Containers is extension to QNAP’s robust Container Station. Container Station provides lightweight virtualization technologies such as LXC and Docker®. With QIoT Containers, QNAP is launching multiple containers such as Ponte, Node-RED, Kafka, Dashing, Freeboard, Redis, MongoDB, RabbitMQ, MariaDB, and more that can be used to define private IoT stacks on QNAP NAS. This environment will help developers to quickly set up the basic components of an IoT platform including Gateway (Ponte), Rules Engine (Node-RED), Database, Dashboard, and more. All these containers will be available in Container Station.

Benefits of QIoT Containers:

  • Rapid IoT application development with low time to market.
  • Provides a hybrid cloud solution for IoT applications, leveraging the best of public and private IoT clouds.
  • Keeps sensitive data and control of your critical IoT devices within your premises.
  • Provides the easiest, most convenient, and highly-configurable IoT stack for developers
  • Reduces the expenses of public IoT cloud platforms; own your private IoT cloud.
  • The best option for pre-production IoT application development and testing.
