PRESS RELEASE

UK's pioneering full fibre broadband provider names first three ‘hypercities' outside London

LONDON, 20 February 2014 - Hyperoptic (www.hyperoptic.com), the UK's leading provider of fibre-to-the-home broadband, has today announced its market-leading Gigabit broadband service is now available to residential and commercial developments in Bristol, Cardiff and Reading.

The three locations join London as the UK's first round of ‘hypercities', making true hyperfast broadband internet infrastructure available to the marketplace for the first time. Among the most thriving urban centres in the UK, the cities have been selected based on a number of factors, including consumer demand and overall density of population.

Hyperoptic plans to make its hyperfast service available in a number of additional ‘hypercities' in the months ahead, at the same time as continuing its rapid expansion across London.  Hyperoptic will soon reach more than 35,000 homes spanning 150 major property developments in the capital, with a target of half a million homes by 2018.

Most recently, the company announced that East Village - the former Athletes' Village in Stratford (E20) - had been installed with Hyperoptic's Gigabit fibre broadband infrastructure, giving its private rental residents access to the UK's fastest broadband speeds.

A pioneer in true fibre to the home

In September 2011, Hyperoptic was the first ISP to deliver a 1,000Mbps symmetrical residential broadband service in the UK. This speed remains 68 times faster than the current national average, and ten times the speed of its nearest competitor.

Hyperoptic's true hyperfast broadband technology differs from the services currently offered by most other leading UK internet service providers in that it provides unimpeded fibre speeds directly to the premises. Other so-called ‘superfast fibre' services are generally hybrids, relying on existing infrastructure and dated copper cables to make up at least part of the line, resulting in drastically reduced internet speeds and unpredictable performance.

Residents and developers wanting to bring market-leading hyperfast internet services to their buildings should register their interest via the Hyperoptic website

Dana Tobak, managing director and co-founder of Hyperoptic, commented:

"We are delighted to bring Hyperoptic to residential and commercial developments in Bristol, Cardiff and Reading. Our ground-breaking broadband speeds have been available to schemes in London since 2011, and there is clearly robust demand for speed, reliability and connectivity across the UK. This is no more true than in these three cities, which we are pleased to name as our first ‘hypercities' outside the capital."
