PRESS RELEASE

New router combines pioneering next-generation wi-fi connectivity with personal cloud capabilities

LONDON, 13 November 2012 - D-Link has today launched its first router to incorporate the latest 802.11ac wireless standard. The Cloud Gigabit Router (DIR-865L) delivers the highest levels of home network performance. This makes it ideally suited to media buffs, gamers and households that need high performance to conduct multiple tasks or run many applications over the network at the same time. D-Link is also launching its first 802.11ac USB dongle, ensuring consumer devices can benefit from the improved speed that this next-generation wireless technology brings.

The DIR-865L makes use of the 5GHz frequency band to deliver speeds up to six times faster than that of today's common Wireless N routers. Furthermore, the dualband capability uses multiple channels to provide wireless speeds of up to 1750 Mbps (1300 Mbps over the 5GHz band plus 450 Mbps over the 2.4GHz band).

Pairing this router with D-Link's new Wireless AC Dualband Adapter (DWA-182), means that users can easily upgrade their PCs and notebooks to take full advantage of the faster speeds and features that 802.11ac delivers. The dongle is also backwards compatible with other wi-fi standards and configurations.

The DIR-865L also boasts cloud connectivity through mydlinkTM Cloud Services, which allows users to check in on what sites are being visited and see who is trying to access their network to block any intruders. D-Link's SharePortTM Mobile app for iOS and AndroidTM devices provides access to files and multimedia stored on a USB drive, meaning music, video, and photos can be streamed or transferred from the connected drive to multiple mobile devices.

"Faster broadband speeds and the explosion of High-Definition content, combined with the growth in connected devices around the home, has created tremendous appetite for easy, fast and seamless connectivity," said Adrian Edwards, Consumer Solutions Manager at D-Link UK & Ireland. "The DIR-865L can provide the power and flexibility to cope with the ballooning demand for bandwidth. This makes it the perfect device to support users that want to simultaneously stream HD and 3D multimedia to multiple wireless devices throughout the home."

The router is backwards compatible with existing wireless devices operating on earlier standards such as 802.11a/b/g/n, and improved coverage is delivered using beamforming technology that sends a targeted stream of data directly from the router to the device, thus increasing range and overcoming obstructions for whole home coverage.

As well as delivering the latest generation of wireless access technology and convenient cloud capabilities, this device packs in a number of other features and functionality. This includes true Gigabit routing connectivity, IPv6 support, DLNA capability, intelligent QoS prioritisation technology and parental controls, as well as easy setup and installation through D-Link's Quick Router Setup (QRS), which allows customers to quickly configure their router using a handy, free mobile app. Also, the Zero Configuration feature lets users easily connect D-Link Cloud Cameras to this, or any, mydlinkTM-enabled Cloud Router by, automatically detecting and configuring a newly added device. With Zero Configuration, D-Link makes it easier than ever before to add cameras to your home network, providing users with the ultimate experience in device interoperability and control.
