Synology's first 3U Rackstation RS4017xs+ and new RS18017xs+

Milton Keynes, United Kingdom —19th January 2017—Synology® Inc. today launched RackStation RS4017xs+, RS18017xs+, and expansion units RX2417sas and RX1217sas. The powerful rackmount servers are equipped with upgrades that enable faster data processing speeds and flexible scalability for growing businesses.

RS4017xs+ leverages an Intel Xeon D-1541 8-core 2.1GHz processor (burst up to 2.7GHz), delivering ultra-high performance with over 4,900 MB/s sequential read throughput and 690,000 sequential read IOPS when used with 6 x 10GbE Link Aggregation enabled1. Being the first Synology RackStation in 3U chassis design, RS4017xs+ provides 16 3.5 inch SATA drive bays for high storage capacity. With two Synology RX1217/RX1217RP expansion units connected, a combined total of 40 drive bays can be freely arranged for storage management. 

Powered by an Intel Xeon D-1531 six-core 2.2GHz processor (burst up to 2.7GHz), RS18017xs+ delivers outstanding performance with over 4,800 MB/s sequential read throughput and 568,000 sequential read IOPS when used with 6 x 10GbE Link Aggregation enabled1. RS18017xs+ comes with 12 drive bays supporting 3.5"/2.5" SAS/SATA drives in a 2U rack chassis, two 10GBase-T and four 1GbE ports, optional 10GbE Network Interface Cards (NIC) support, and provides flexible storage scalability up to 96 drives with the new expansion unit RX1217sas or 180 drives with RX2417sas.

RS4017xs+ is equipped with 8GB DDR4 ECC UDIMM (upgradable to 64GB) and RS18017xs+ is equipped with 16GB DDR4 ECC RDIMM (upgradable to 128GB), ensuring data integrity when handling high-value data. The two RackStation servers support Synology High Availability and offer a suite of redundancy mechanisms including system fans and network ports with failover support. Redundant power supplies are also available on the RS4017xs+ and RS18017xs+ to further maximise system uptime. RS4017xs+ and RS18017xs+ both provide seamless storage solutions for virtualisation environments including VMware, Citrix, Hyper-V, and OpenStack.

RS4017xs+ and RS18017xs+ run on DiskStation Manager (DSM), an advanced and intuitive NAS operating system that offers a wide range of applications to bring better productivity at work. RS4017xs+ and RS18017xs+ are also backed with Synology's 5-year limited warranty and Synology Replacement Service (SRS). Synology earned the highest overall ranking in the 10th TechTarget Quality Awards survey for mid-range NAS systems  Synology has also received numerous media accolades, including PCR's Networking Vendor of the Year 2016 and PC Pro’s Best NAS Brand 2016.
