PRESS RELEASE

23 January: Sharp Visual Solutions Europe today announces the availability of its new 20-inch class touch-screen monitor optimised for Windows 8. The LL-S201A provides a resolution of 1920x1080, a contrast ratio of 3000:1 and processes up to 16.7 million colours to display stunning full HD images. And its highly responsive 10-point capacitive touch interface enables people to use all fingers when operating Windows' gesture-based controls and applications for a more immersive user experience.

‘The monitor delivers crisp, clear images and is optimised for use with Windows 8,' says Darren Gaffey, Product Planning and Marketing Manager, Visual Solutions, Sharp. ‘Windows 8 is a great step forward. It provides a pointer to the future of how we will control computers and really comes to life when used on a touch screen. The monitor supports all the gesture features of Windows and offers a more cost-efficient way to take advantage of the software's full capabilities as there is no need to purchase a new PC or laptop.'

With today's touch screens allowing people to use two fingers to manage controls, users will instantly note that the 10-point touch capability of the monitor offers a much more intuitive and tactile user experience. The display's capacitive touchscreen provides highly accurate and fast response to touch or the included stylus - similar to tablet PCs.

The stylus is just 2mm thick at the nib and provides fast and realistic writing. It also includes a ‘palm cancellation' function to prioritise the stylus recognition so users can write comfortably with their hand resting on the screen. In addition, the screen's orientation can be flipped by switch - especially useful for teams working together on projects.

The screen can be used across a wide range of applications. Retailers can provide attractive and interactive look books, point of sale and information systems in store. Car dealerships can use the screen - laying it flat on a desk and using the rotate function - to give a customer a detailed virtual tour of the exact specification they have selected for their car. In the classroom the screen can be connected to Sharp's BIG PAD interactive whiteboards. A pupil can write on the large screen while the teacher can use the LL-S201A to draw and make notes with both of their inputs appearing on the BIG PAD display. Similarly in meetings, a presenter can write on the BIG PAD and other team members can make notes on the LL-S201A with their notes appearing on the big screen.

The monitor, with its full HD images and responsive touch display, also appeals to corporates with the screen able to be used as an interactive table around which teams can collaborate on jobs. People can fluidly switch between their apps, open and close files, enlarge and reduce images, snap and resize apps to the size of the screen, easily arrange Windows tiles, and control system functions.

The flexibility of the multi-touch screen provides a far more interactive experience when using the web, Windows 8 applications, games and multimedia tools. This is especially the case when using notation and drawing programmes, music apps (e.g. using virtual instruments) and the on-screen keyboard. The touch interface also makes it much easier and more enjoyable for consumers to control their systems and watch and control movies that are displayed in full HD with stunning image performance
