INTEL CALLS ALL ASPIRING UK FILM MAKERS

Promising British filmmakers offered a taste of Hollywood

London, UK, 12 September 2005: Intel Corporation has teamed up with Dolby Laboratories and Pinewood Shepperton Studios to offer a fantastic opportunity to all promising filmmakers across the UK.

The Intel Digital Home Short Film Competition, which aims to discover fresh new filmmaking talent, challenges aspiring directors to create an arresting eight-minute movie that could win them £5,000 and the chance to gain invaluable experience at Pinewood Shepperton Studios, the UK’s leading film studio.

Throughout September, filmmakers are invited to submit a 500 – 1,000 word proposal for a short film that incorporates a ‘digital home scene’, such as a character using an entertainment PC, in a way that is integral to the plot.

Ten finalists will be selected in October to make their films with the help of a £500 grant from Intel.

The finalists will be offered the opportunity to attend a glamorous gala screening of their films. Here, their films will be premiered to an audience that will include industry representatives on the lookout for new talent.

The director of the winning short film will receive the cash prize and a digital home pack from Intel, including an entertainment PC and personal media player, to boost their career and help them break into the vibrant UK film industry.

The winner will also be awarded a much-sought-after one-month internship at Pinewood Shepperton Studios in order to get hands-on experience at this world-renowned production centre.

“The UK has a stimulating and successful film culture and our goal in launching the Digital Home Short Film Competition is to foster young talent and support the industry,” said David Mitchell, European Digital Home spokesperson, Intel. “Innovative new developments in digital home technology now allow film enthusiasts to experience movies in new and exciting ways from the comfort of their sitting room.

“By incorporating the concept of the digital home as a part of their short films, these promising filmmakers will help build awareness of these ground-breaking new technologies with the UK film industry and consumers,” he said.

Jane Gillard, Marketing Specialist PC for Dolby commented: “Dolby is delighted to be involved with the Intel Film Competition. We have worked with cinema professionals to produce the best possible sound in the cinema for over 30 years, and are proud to be working with Intel to bring cinematic sound to home PCs.”
