PRESS RELEASE

  • In a stable European monitor market both brands together further increased their market share in the first quarter 2014
  • Eastern European business conditions were challenging, at the same time AOC and Philips performed better than the market and kept their common leading position which they first reached one year ago
  • In the Western European market - which grew by six percent in the first quarter - both brands outperformed the market with growth rates of seven percent (Philips) and 11 percent (AOC).

Amsterdam, 8 July 2014: According to the latest figures from the analyst Context, the European monitor market actually paints a divided picture: while Western Europe grew by six percent in the first quarter 2014 compared to the same period last year, some Eastern European markets were influenced by consumer and customer uncertainty. For Europe on a whole, the market remains stable with a positive tendency. Despite these challenges AOC and MMD, license partner for Philips monitors, have achieved further growth in their market share. AOC and MMD are subsidiaries of the world's leading display manufacturer TPV.

"With both our brands - AOC and Philips - we are always on the forefront of consumer-centric innovation. We are display specialists who entirely focus on this segment and know customers' needs. This approach leads to new categories such as our Android-based All-in-One displays or our brand-new 28" 4K UltraClear UHD monitor 288P6LJEB - a state-of-the-art product for the fast-growing large display segment. Our innovation-driven approach is rewarded by a continuously growing market share", says Thomas Schade, Vice President EMEA for AOC and MMD.

In the UK - where the market shows strong growth - the two monitor specialists have continued their successful development. While the market increased by 14 percent in the first quarter compared to same period last year, the two brands together grew their market share by nearly 40 percent. Philips has increased its market share by more than 70 percent.
