Unveiled back in January at CES, Samsung has finally announced its release schedule for the Galaxy NotePRO, a 12.2 inch tablet, in the UK. The device will become available from Thursday 6th February in selected retailers which include Carphone Warehouse, John Lewis and the Samsung Experience Store at Westfield Stratford City. The device is Samsung's first from its new PRO tablet range to hit stores.

This substantial stylus packing tablet was made available for pre-order last week priced at £649. It comes in a black or white colour scheme and boasts a 12.2-inch LCD panel with a 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution. It is powered by a 1.9GHz quad-core processor and runs Google's latest Android 4.4 KitKat OS skinned with Samsung's new Magazine UX.

The Galaxy NotePRO is fairly light and slim for its screen size at just 7.95mm thick and 750g in weight. A substantial 9,500mAh Lithium-Ion battery will ensure a full day's use without having to recharge. It also comes with an 8MP rear-mounted camera and a 2MP front-facing camera.

Samsung's Multi Window function will allow users to split the 12.2 inch screen into four different panels, good for making the most of the screen on offer. Also a Remote PC feature will also allow easy access and management of one's home or office PC from a remote location.

"We’re excited to bring the Galaxy NotePRO 12.2 to market and set a new standard of excellence for the tablet category. The Galaxy NotePRO 12.2 comes complete with a premium design, world class viewing experience and unique features, making it a must-have device," said Simon Stanford, Vice President of IT & Mobile Division, Samsung Electronics UK & Ireland.

I'm at a loss with this product - size and price makes it comparable to a “proper” laptop/ultrabook, in which case why would I want something running Android when the alternative is a lot more flexible?

And if you're after that “large screen experience” with Android what's wrong with something like the HP Slate 21. Downsides are that the HP device is 4.2 rather than 4.4 OS, doesn't have the S-Pen or high res display (it's merely 1080p). On the other hand the HP is less than half the price, has a 21" display and also three USB ports, so you can connect drives, keyboards, mice etc. The HP even comes with SplashtopHD so you can remote control a Windows PC!

Unless I've missed the point I don't see Samsung selling many of these.
£649 for a tablet - it is a tablet. Not a laptop or notebook.

£649 is alot of money to pay when the 2" smaller ones are half the price and do exactly the same - exactly the same.
