Samsung has officially announced its new addition to the company’s Galaxy Tab lineup- the Samsung Galaxy Tab3 Lite, ahead of MWC 2014. Samsung has also announced that the new tablet will be released globally in Black and White colour variants. It highlighted that this will become the most affordable tablet in the Galaxy Tab series, which indicates that the pricing, although not yet revealed, should be under £100. I note that the non-'Lite' version of the 7-inch Galaxy Tab3 has been priced as low as £79 in retail, and several other times at £99, previously.

So readers can get a whiff of what Samsung might have snipped to make the already keenly priced 7-inch Tab3 cheaper, a comparison of some of the key Tab3 and Tab3 Lite specs is listed below:

With no real compelling differences specs-wise between the two devices, besides a few tweaks of the cameras and storage options tabulated above, the main thing that has changed on the device is the menu bar. It is now placed on the device's bezel, rather than on the screen, which Samsung claims to "maximize the Galaxy Tab3 Lite's wide screen experience."

Although the tablet is not the most exciting and groundbreaking piece of technology reported recently, if it is priced right it could be a good contender facing competition such as the Tesco Hudl. We will update you as soon as we hear more on prices and release dates.

In related news we expect to see the Galaxy Note 3 Lite launched at next month's MWC.

The bit about the Tab3 7 being available for £79 is misleading. Most places have them back up for £120-£140.

If I could find one for £79 new I'd get one for the wife - both the kids have Tab3s and they're great. I'm under no illusions about how they stack up against the quad core Nexus and the like, but they really are excellent.
The Tab 3 is out spec'd by the Tesco HUDL for a similar price. The cut down Tab3 lite at £79 does put it £40 cheaper, 33% cheaper which is a good saving for people who just want a simple tablet.
