Musical mash-up

There have been many great musical collaborations, Queen and Bowie, Will Smith and Jazzy Jeff and even Jason and Kylie but now there's a new kid on the block as Shazam and Spotify have announced a partnership.

The duo have said that Spotify will be integrated across Shazam's free and premium apps for iPhone, iPod touch and Android so ‘Shazamers' tracking down music will be able to access Spotify directly .

There will be a direct link between the two services via a ‘Play in Spotify' feature in Shazam's apps, letting users begin listening to the full track of their choice immediately through Spotify.

The new capability will be available on the free and premium Shazam Encore apps on Android and Apple's iOS including Shazam Red.

"Integrating Spotify into Shazam's applications combines music discovery with one of the world's most popular music streaming services, providing a seamless experience for music fans at the point of inspiration in any location. Spotify is delivering an innovative, high quality experience to music lovers and we're excited to bring the Spotify service to Shazam," said Andrew Fisher, CEO of Shazam.

"Now if you hear a great new track you can identify it, listen to it instantly in its entirety and easily add it to your music collection. That's pretty powerful stuff," said Spotify's CEO, Daniel Ek.

Shazam's premium users will also be able to combine their paid-for ‘unlimited tagging' privileges with the new feature to get an ‘unrestricted' mobile streaming service.

Shazam's free app gives users 5 tags a month and will get  the ‘Play in Spotify' feature later in Q1.
