Though Sony has already used the stage of the Consumer Electronic Show to announce four new handsets in its Xperia range, a leaked roadmap shows that another two Android-powered devices may launch in 2012.

The plans suggest that the Sony Xperia LT22i Nypon and the Xperia ST251 Kumquat (isn’t that a fruit?) may launch at the Mobile World Congress 2012, which kicks off in Barcelona on February 27th.

GSM Arena has also been able to snag some photos and specifications of the new phones, which pits the Nypon in the same category as the recently announced Xperia S, with a NovaThor U8500 dual-core processor and a 4in qHD display.

Nypon will apparently come packed with the latest Android operating system and sport an 8 megapixel camera capable of 1080p HD video recording and will feature Near Field Communication (NFC) for transferring data quickly between compatible devices.

Murky picture allegedly showing the two new handsets.

The Kumquat on the other hand looks to be a lower-end Xperia model. Though it sports the same processor as the Nyphon it runs Gingerbread 2.3.7, features a 3.5in Reality display and comes packed with a 5 megapixel camera.

Neither the Xperia Nyphon or Xperia Kumquat have been officially confirmed by Sony.

Nyphon looks okay spec-wise, but that murky photo seems to suggest that it shares the same slab-o-plastic looks of the Xperia S (which presumably also means no memory expansion nor removable battery like the 'S), which is not appealing to me.

Hope that's just a pre-launch configuration - since I can't see a good reason why Sony would want to run ICS on some “new” phones and G'bread on others - surely that means more(/unecessary?) effort needed in software support?
:stupid:
I just could not buy a phone called a Kumquat….
