The new operating system will launch in the first quarter of 2012 beginning with the upgrade of Galaxy S II and Galaxy Note before rolling out to other devices.
Revealed via the Samsung Mobile Facebook page, the post reads: “We know you have been waiting and we're thrilled today to announce that we'll start serving Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich to Galaxy Note and Galaxy S II in the first quarter of 2012."
There are a few omissions on the list of confirmed devices to receive the upgrade, including the Galaxy S, Galaxy Ace and Galaxy Y. Devices confirmed to receive the new OS include the Galaxy R phone, Galaxy Tab 10.1, Tab 8.9, Tab 7.7 and the new Tab 7.0 Plus.
The company plans to release separate announcements detailing the Android update for each device in due course.
Android 4.0 will come packed to the rafters with a host of new features, including a fresh new interface, better navigation and more advanced customisation options.
Android 4.0 is also set to arrive on some HTC smartphones early next year, as well as Motorola's Droid Razr.
