PRESS RELEASE

  • Pre-order online from Friday 16th December at currys.co.uk and pcworld.co.uk
  • Fastest and lightest tablet on the market
  • First to have Android's Ice Cream Sandwich operating system

Currys and PC World announced today that the Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime, the thinnest and fastest tablet on the market, are now available to pre-order online at currys.co.uk/transformer and pcworld.co.uk/transformer for £499 ahead of the 12th January launch date.

Asus's latest sleek offering to the Android market, the Eee Pad Transformer Prime, comes running Android 3.2 Honeycomb, but will be the first tablet to be compatible with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, if users wish to upgrade when the update becomes available next year.

The first tablet to launch with a quad-core processor, the Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core processor, supported by 1GB of RAM and Nvidia quad-core GeForce GPU makes it the fastest tablet available on the market.  The powerful quad-core processor supports 1080p HD video playback, playing movie content smoother than ever before.

Games look brilliant on the tablet too, thanks to the added 3D effects on the Transformer Prime, including water ripple, smoke and fog effects, 3D graphics previously unseen on a tablet, rivalling a PC game or a games console.

As well as being quick, it's the thinnest tablet on the market, at a mere 8.3mm.  Sleek and light to carry, the Eee Pad Transformer Prime has an impressive 17 hour battery life (when combined with the keyboard dock), perfect for enjoying films, playing games and working on.

The Eee Pad Transformer Prime also includes a free intuitive Asus web storage app for saving your files; you can also use a microSD card up to 32GB each for extra storage.  Other additional features include an 8MP rear camera, and a built in sub-woofer.

Mark Slater, Category Director at Dixons Retail, said: "The arrival of the latest Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime to the tablet market is exciting and we think it will be a real contender.  It's the first tablet to support Android's Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, and being the fastest and lightest it's set to be very popular with Android fans."
