In a further push to establish the Xbox 360 as much more than just a games console, Microsoft has announced a large number of content consumption apps for Xbox LIVE users. The full list of apps, which has just been announced by Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb, Microsoft’s Xbox LIVE programming director, includes titles such as Napster, IndieFlix, Deezer, Flightbox and Sainsburys in the UK.
Here’s the full list of entertainment apps courtesy of Major Nelson, UK apps are highlighted in green but there are also other apps in that will be available in the Majority of LIVE regions which may or may not include the UK.
Many of the above apps will require paid for subscriptions on top of the Xbox LIVE Gold subscription. Looking at timescales, they should all be released between now and Spring 2013.
SkyDrive app for Xbox 360 now available
As well as the above content channels for LIVE, Microsoft has rolled out other new apps for the Xbox 360 including SkyDrive, meaning that “your favourite content is now only one click away, whether you are using the web, your PC, your phone, or now, even your big screen TV”. Microsoft’s SkyDrive experience in the living room will help you view shared photos and videos and also integrate with Windows Phone so you can “snap and see” photos from your smartphone almost immediately upon your big screen TV. The SkyDrive app on Xbox supports Kinect voice controls and gestures. It requires Xbox LIVE Gold Membership.
