Early in September, ASUS met the arrival of Intel's Lynnfield processors and P55 chipset with the launch of six supporting motherboards. However, the P7P55D series was missing one key ingredient - a board in the micro-ATX form factor.
ASUS does of course have the mATX market covered with its high-end Maximus III Gene, but if you've been hoping for something a little less extreme, this could be your answer:
It's being dubbed the P7P55-M, and it's a board that'll extend the P7P55D series into the increasingly-popular micro-ATX form factor. Although yet to be confirmed by ASUS itself, the above leaked image suggests that the board is imminent.
Designed around the P55 chipset, it offers support for Intel's recently-launched Core i5/Core i7 LGA1156 processors. Unlike the high-end Maximus III Gene, however, the P7P55-M aims for a mainstream audience with only a single PCIe x16 slot.
The board looks visually impressive having retained the black PCB and blue highlights synonymous to the P7P55D-series range, and it sports a couple of ASUS-exclusive features including TurboV overclocking and the ExpressGate operating system.
There's no mention of price or availability, but it's one to watch if you're planning a micro-ATX P55 build.
