PRESS RELEASE

Mio MiVue drive recorders raise the bar with built-in WIFI, a Sony® optic sensor, lifetime safety camera alerts, an included rear view camera and Extreme HD recording

30/09/2015 MiTAC today announces its new range of dash cams, the Mio MiVue 600 series. This innovative range of seven new dash cams offers a device to suit the need of every driver and caters for every budget. The series includes the Mio MiVue 608, 618, 638 Touch, 658 Touch, 658 WIFI, 688 and 698 Dual, each equipped with a variety of features that sets the standard for dash cams.

“The UK stands at the foot of a trend being driven by Russia and Asia. Insurance companies are seeing the value of a drive recorder and users understand and are beginning to demand the added safety benefits of an eyewitness on the road. It means there is about to be a boom in dash cams and Mio is set to be at the heart of this. As a result, we want to ensure that drivers have access to superior quality and features and most importantly, a device for every budget. The Mio MiVue 600 series offers this breadth and we’re excited to be launching it into the UK market.” saidHarold Cobben Sales Director B2C for MiTAC Europe.

Integrated WIFI for immediate sharing – 658 WIFI

The Mio MiVue 658 WIFI comes with integrated WIFI, which allows a direct connection between device and smartphone. By using the Mio MiVue application, compatible with iOS and Android, the user can email a video to their insurance company or even share it directly from the dash cam to various social networks.

The device can create backup videos of recorded scenes, or generate 20 second clips when it detects a collision. The recorded data is then automatically sent to the paired mobile device for safekeeping, after the Mio MiVue App is activated.

Integrated GPS and free lifetime safety camera alerts – whole series except the 608

With exception of the 608, the whole series comes with built-in GPS to provide information about positioning and speed for both live feed and all recorded videos. And the devices with GPS also feature lifetime safety camera data subscription without additional costs.

Ambarella and Extreme HD: a new quality of recording

The Mio MiVue 638 Touch, 658 Touch and the 658 WIFI come with an Ambarella® A7LA digital signal processor, which sets the highest standards on the market and is used by the likes of GoPro, Panasonic and Axis. The whole series also supports Full HD recording and the Mio MiVue 618, 658 Touch, 658 WIFI and 698 Dual also offer recording in Extreme HD 1296p.

Additionally, most of the new models are fitted with a bright F1.8 aperture lens and a six layered glass lens with optional IR filter. All this combines into a product that will record videos in very high resolution, even in difficult lighting conditions. The field of view of the series is either 140 or 150 degrees, so the devices will catch every detail in front of the windscreen.

Sony optic sensor for superior view, especially in low light conditions - 688

The MiVue 688 is fitted with a Sony® optical sensor; the Xmor™ CMOS. Developed by Sony, more light reaches the photodiodes in the lens. This way recorded videos are sharper and clearer, and it also enhances the quality of images taken, especially in low light.

Touch screen for optimal safety – 638 Touch, 658 Touch and 658 WIFI

Drive recorders with touch screen technology, such as the Mio MiVue 638 Touch, 658 Touch and 658 WIFI, are to be the core of new market standards. They are fitted with a crisp-clear 2,7” widescreen display and can record over 30 frames per second.

Rear view camera as extra eyewitness behind you  – 698 Dual

The Mio MiVue 698 Dual is a set of two cameras which operate in a synchronised manner; the main unit is installed on the car windscreen, recording events that happen in front of the vehicle. The second unit can be installed to monitor what happens behind the car. Both are controlled by the main unit, and its screen can be divided in half to show live feed from both cameras simultaneously.

Second SD card slot and other smart features

Depending on the model, Mio MiVue drive recorders can support SD cards with up to 128GB of storage space, and the Mio MiVue 608, 638 Touch and 658 Touch come with a handy additional SD card slot. This will allow mirroring recorded data on both cards, to ensure the videos are protected from accidental damage. It allows the user to always keep one as back up for their own administration.

The series also comes with smart features like speed alarm, the ability to add custom speed camera locations to database, 3-Axis G-Sensor, and the parking mode that enables recording of events even when a driver leaves a car in a parking spot*.

Data gathered by any Mio MiVue dash cam can also be managed on PC and MAC computers by the Mio MiVue Manager program. It allows the user to easily manage and browse through all recorded materials and makes it possible to share on Facebook or YouTube.
