PRESS RELEASE

Sony Europe announced that select* Sony 4K HDR TVs with Android TV now have the Google Assistant built in, starting first with the UK, with more countries to follow later in 2018. With the help of Sony’s voice operated remote, the Google Assistant allows quick access to films, music and other content, as well as control over smart home devices and easy information search – all via Sony Android TV.

The Google Assistant turns a compatible Sony television with Android TV into a complete entertainment-cum-smart home hub. Users can make voice commands to watch a movie or their favourite TV series on Google Play and other popular services – simply by saying ‘play Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle on Google Play’ you can launch the app. The Google Assistant on Sony Android TVs will help you find the latest blockbuster, check the score of the big game and you can also ask Google about the cast of your favourite show.

With an exceptional level of voice operation, the Google Assistant enhances the entertainment experience and serves as a smart home hub to more than 1,500 compatible smart home devices from over 225 popular brands. This includes for instance light and thermostat control through simple commands, such as ‘turn off the kitchen lights’ or ‘set the thermostat to 20 degrees.’

The Google Assistant will begin to roll out across a selection of Sony televisions in the UK today, with completion on all compatible models expected in June 2018. Additionally, later this year, The Google Assistant will launch in France, Germany, Spain and the Netherlands.
