It was clear that when the Apple vs Samsung patent case came to a close, seeing Samsung fined over $1 billion, that matters were far from settled.

Samsung is no-doubt still in the process of appealing the decision and has even requested a retrial, following the questionable behaviour of the Jury Foreman. Since the initial case, several of Apple's patents have also been re-evaluated and, one strong contender in the trial, the famous 'Bounce Back' patent, has now been invalidated.

Likewise, Samsung has been granted permission to add Apple's iPhone 5 to the court case, claiming that it infringes several wireless patents, with a specific focus on 4G, which is yet to be declared a FRAND standard. Many of the firm's previous patents fell under the realm of FRAND licensing, reducing their effectiveness in court; this time around Samsung technology patent claims should hold greater weight in the eyes of the law.

Apple adds new Samsung products to legal battle

Not all bodes well for Samsung, however, as Apple has just received permission to add the Galaxy S3, the Galaxy Note 2 and the Samsung Nexus to the trial, meaning that if Samsung isn't able to turn-around its fortunes, it may have a difficult time trading its latest products, with potential damages rising as well.

Mind you, we do suspect by the time all is said and done, that there will be a Galaxy S4 out on the market and, with the exceptional sales figures witnessed by the Galaxy S3, Samsung's likely to pull-out all the stops in preparation for its next trial date.

The Bounce Back patent has been invalidated? Fantastic! Please, please let's see it returned to our handsets in the next update… the blue glow that replaced it is awful!
Any chance Hexus can stop reporting these kind of stories now unless they are actually conclude something…. The whole Apple patent spat is getting boring to read….
I find it interesting to hear how things are developing - and while there might not be a great deal being decided at present, something like this is IMO still worth reporting on.
