Thanks entirely to the immediate availability of wholesale purchase of parts of BT's new fibre network, much like the Local Loop Unbundling used by ISPs to offer competative services over BT phone lines, Sky has now announced plans to launch a new fibre broadband service in April.

The new service, 'Sky Broadband Unlimited Fibre' will be available at £20 per month, and feature the same 40Mbps speed as BT Infinity and, with fingers crossed, will head towards 300Mbps in the coming months as BT looks to update the service over the summer period. Sky has confirmed that the service will not feature a usage cap. As the new product will be rolling out over BT fibre, it's of course limited to the cable network's coverage, with BT expected to have the service available to around one third of the country by the the time the it launches this April.

For those wishing to discover if they're currently living within an area covered by the new service, head on over to www.bt.com/infinity. You can also visit www.samknows.com for the latest information on broadband offerings in your area. If you'd like to sign up for Sky's trial of the service, try fibre.sky.com.

Does this mean other fibre providers will have more reasonable prices? Im in an infinity area but i dont fancy the draconian nature of BTs business or the insane price it costs if you go with anyone other than BT.

Fingers crossed it will, I believe others are starting to jump on the bandwagon, the market will fast become competitive.
I have just ordered FTTC from IDNet, paid £363 for the year including installation cost. Got the Home Plus option which is normally £28.58 per month. http://www.idnet.net/solutions/home/broadband/default-fibre.jsp

I probably wouldn't of ordered it if Sky told us that they were going to offer FTTC services over the BT network this year. But 3 months of 10x faster internet is worth the little extra it cost.
Can't see if it's based on BTs fair usage policy and traffic shapping…

Although probably is :S

Wish BE would move their fibre service out of trial status……
