The more the merrier?

The second beta of Skype 5.0 for Windows now offers callers the chance to make group video calls with up to ten people.

The website has also been give a makeover and will offer better quality group video calls, according to Skype's blog.

Designed to bring families together or host group business meetings, the group video calls functionality is now said to be better quality but requires all its users to be running the latest version so even friends and family running Skype 5.0 beta 1 will have to upgrade.

The website has also been given a new look to appear "sleeker, neater and crisper than before" and also boasts a more mature user interface, the blog said.

A new feature called Skype Home also lets users follow contacts' mood messages, set a profile picture and add a personal message plus receive account notifications.

The blog also said: "We've made improvements to call quality when making group video calls, as well as fixed a number of bugs affecting stability, so your calling experience should be smoother than before."

The new version includes automatic call recovery that will reconnect Skype calls that are interrupted due to annoying network problems. The firm said it has also fixed a bunch of bugs in the first beta but warns as the new version is still a work in progress, the odd bug may still remain.

The VoIP giant has recently announced its IPO (initial public offering) through which it's hoping to raise a cool $100 million.
