Gianfranco Lanci promoted to COO and executive vice president, leading the PC business group

Aymar de Lencquesaing joins as president EMEA and senior vice president Lenovo with ambition to drive company to #1 in EMEA

Monday, 3rd February 2014: Lenovo, the world's number one PC company, is appointing Aymar de Lencquesaing as president to head up its business in EMEA while Gianfranco Lanci is promoted to COO (Chief Operating Officer) and executive vice president of Lenovo.  Mr Lanci will be responsible for the company's newly formed worldwide PC Group; the EMEA region overall and the mature markets in Asia Pacific, namely Japan, Australia and New Zealand.  Mr De Lencquesaing will also join Lenovo's global executive committee as senior vice president Lenovo.

The moves come as part of a global reorganisation that forms Lenovo into four distinct business groups in order to capitalise on the strong business momentum the company is experiencing and opportunities it sees for further growth across the Smart Connected Device (SCD) spectrum:

  • PC Business Group - including all Lenovo and Think brands and headed up by Gianfranco Lanci
  • Mobile Business Group - smartphones, tablet, smart TV
  • Enterprise Business Group - servers and storage
  • Ecosystem and Cloud services - including opportunities across both Android and Windows

Commenting on the changes, Lenovo chairman and CEO Yang Yuanqing said:  "We are in the most exciting phase of our history so far - outperforming the market quarter after quarter; delivering consistent growth in our core PC business globally; and positioning ourselves to become a significant player in both the enterprise and mobility spaces. Our strong results in EMEA are key to our global success.   I congratulate Gianfranco on what he has achieved in EMEA so far and welcome Aymar to build our business in its next phase of growth."

Gianfranco Lanci added: "When I joined Lenovo in 2012, I set out an ambition for the company to become a top 3 PC player in EMEA by 2013 - we outperformed that significantly by becoming #2 in EMEA last year with 15.3% market share.  The next phase of our growth is about anticipating the next set of opportunities for our company and ensuring we have the right organisation in place to help us be faster; more focused, and more efficient in providing innovative products and services to an incredibly diverse market.  I am confident that Aymar will lead our EMEA business into the next phase of growth that will take us beyond PCs and tablets and more widely accelerate the server and smartphone opportunity."

De Lencquesaing continued: "Whilst Gianfranco has built Lenovo to be the second largest PC company in EMEA, there are still immense opportunities to grow further.  My ambition is of course that we build on that foundation and become the #1 PC company in EMEA but not only that.  Our focus is beyond PCs to the PC+ and smart connected device landscape - we have established a strong foundation already in smartphones in a number of markets in EMEA and will continue to expand over the coming year.  Lenovo is poised for even greater things moving forward."

The new appointments will be effective April 1st 2014.
