Samsung has unveiled the SE370 monitor range. These are Full-HD, AMD FreeSync compatible, PLS (Plane-to-Line-Switching) monitors, available in 23.6-inch and 27-inch diagonal screen sizes. Among its pleasing features the SE370 features a Qi-compatible mobile charging plate integrated into the stand base.

Samsung's VP of Visual Display Business, Seok-gi Kim, unveiled the new monitors and put forward a vision of the devices "doing away with the clutter," on your desk and supporting "active lifestyles". Kim boldly claimed this monitor design industry first "dramatically improves efficiency, convenience and connectivity at home and at work".

As an antidote for the above marketing bombast let's look at the spec table:

As you can see from the above, these are pretty conventional modern Samsung monitors featuring Samsung's IPS-alike PLS display panels with full HD resolutions. These monitors might be attractive for 1080p gaming as they support AMD FreeSync, offer a 4ms response time and a Game Mode image gamma setting. Unfortunately Samsung hasn't published the range of refresh rates that are supported by the SE370.

Looking at the monitor ergonomics, Samsung's latest monitors are flicker free, include a low blue light eye-saver mode and wide viewing angles. The brightness ranges from a maximum of 250 cd/m2 to 300 cd/m2 depending upon which screen you buy and the contrast ratio is 1000:1. Some negatives are that the monitor stand doesn't appear to be height adjustable and the monitor is only available in glossy white.

Samsung has yet to reveal pricing and the availability schedule for the SE370 monitor range.

I thought this was a silly place to have a charging pad, but then I looked down, and my phone was basically in this position.

Now if only every monitor would include this.
