AOC has announced the Q2577PWQ monitor, which will become part of its professional range. This 25-inch QHD IPS display sports accurate colour, connections for most common video ports, a good degree of physical adjustability, plus flicker-free comfort for professionals or home users.

With four times the resolution of a standard HD display the Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) AOC Q2577PWQ will provide sharp detail and ample screen real-estate across its 25-inches. The 'Advanced IPS technology' used in this monitor is said to provide improved accuracy in colour, contrast and wide viewing angles. Users will also benefit from uniform luminance.

Flicker-free technology is in place, which should help minimise eye health concerns and tiredness when this monitor is used over protracted periods. If used for video and entertainment a quick response time of 5ms should help minimise any ghosting effects in the imagery.

Further health aspects of computer/monitor use are targeted by the monitor stand design. The stand provided with the AOC Q2577PWQ allows for height adjustability of 130 mm, pivot, swivel and tilt. Furthermore, the monitor can be fixed on VESA (100x100) compliant wall mounts and racks if desired or required.

As mentioned in the intro, this monitor is said to be particularly suitable for those who rely on quality monitors for their day to day work. Photography, graphics design, movie production, CAD/CAM engineering, medical industries are name checked by AOC as target users/industries. More for convenience and cable clutter cutting than high fidelity aspirations, the monitor is equipped with 3W stereo speakers.

The AOC Q2577PWQ offers all the standard connections in use today, which include a DisplayPort, HDMI, DVI and VGA port. It features energy saving Eco Mode and e-Saver mode and complies with EnergyStar 6.0 and TCO 6.0 standards.

AOC wrote to HEXUS today to say that the Q2577PWQ will be available from next month at a suggested price of £329, but I can already see it available at pre-order pricing significantly lower than that. Buyers receive AOC's standard 3 year warranty with on-site exchange service.

Isn't this pretty much the same as the Dell panel which hovers around the £250 mark? Why would anyone pay extra for this monitor? (Genuine question).

Probably the same panel although there are two types of IPS, one being a mainstream version and one being the ‘professional’ grade one.

The dell is using an AH IPS panel so IF the aoc is using a pro panel then that would be worth the extra.

Personally if I was buying a new monitor now I'd be getting a 4k over a QHD, you can get the dell 24" (you'll not really notice 1 inch) P2415Q for around £350.

Ah fair enough, I naturally assumed the Ultrasharp series from Dell were “pro” panels.

I still think QHD is the sweet spot, on a 27" monitor at least. That way everything is still razor sharp and you don't have to worry about scaling.

+1 to that, I find 1920x1080 is only *OK* up to 24", anything past that I'd want 2560x1440.

2560x1440 is also great resolution for gaming with an upper mid-range card, i.e. GTX 970.

it's more to do with the panels colour quality etc, the pro ones have a wider gamut and in some cases accuracy etc. Honestly in 90% of cases you won't notice it and I work in design lol
