Asus, without ROG this time, has announced a curvy new 34-inch widescreen monitor. The Asus Designo Curve MX34VQ monitor is a sleek looking affair held aloft by an elegant circular based stand with built-in Qi wireless charger. Other key specifications of note are its 3440 x 1440 pixel 1800R VA panel, with a 4ms g2g response time, and 48 - 100Hz FreeSync support. Rounding off this offering are stereo Harmon Kardon speakers.

If you are looking for a larger curved 1440p screen the Asus Designo Curve MX34VQ might well appeal. This monitor looks nicely designed and the VA panel provides wide viewing angles (178°). Users will enjoy quite a bit more real estate than on a Full HD monitor. Furthermore, the image quality offered by this non-glare panel looks appealing on paper thanks to its 300cd/m² brightness, 300:1 contrast ratio (plus ASUS Smart Contrast Ratio), and a 95 per cent sRGB colour gamut. For colour adjustment there are eight Splendid video mode presets, four colour temperature presets, and three skin tone select modes.

In terms of 'performance' this monitor provides a 4ms grey to grey response time and, via DP connection, refresh rates of between 48 and 100Hz with Adaptive Sync technology. If you are going to game on this you might be happy to know Asus includes its Crosshair/Timer/FPS Counter GamePlus modes.

The equipped 2x 8W speakers with Asus SonicMaster audio technology, co-developed by Harman Kardon, are said to deliver "home theatre quality audio." Speakers are built-into the bottom edge of the monitor bezel facing down. Furthermore there are AudioWizard modes covering Gaming/Movie/Music/User activities.

Asus has built some useful features into this monitor for greater appeal. It has Low Blue Light tech with four filter settings, and Flicker-Free tech to help keep your peepers fresh and comfortable. The aforementioned built-in Qi wireless charging pad in the base has built-in LEDs and emits an aurora-like glow during charging. For connectivity users have access to 3x HDMI 2.0, 1x DisplayPort 1.2, (with PiP modes) and a headphone jack. A 5-way OSD navigation joystick facilitiates OSD selections and adjustments.

Unfortunately the fancy stand doesn't provide much adjustment, you're limited to just +15°~-5° tilting it seems. Also notable for its absence are any kind of USB connectors/hub.

The Asus Designo Curve MX34VQ will be available in the UK from the week commencing 20th March. The monitor's RRP is set at £749.99.

It has a sensible stand too, unlike it's much more expensive G-Sync / IPS cousin.
This hits the spot for me.

Like the looks, like the size and gtg of 4ms, resolution and QI charger is handy.

Only thing I am unsure of is the freesync range of 48 if that's to high?

Already decided to buy inow Amd upcoming hardware.

My only concern is will it drive this monitor above 48hz for freesync with all bells and whistles. I still have my doubts
A monitor-based USB hub is so convenient - why would emit it from a Ā£750 monitor?!
Damn. So close, yet so far.

Pros:
- Non-TN panel (wether it's VA or IPS is more or less moot to me as long as it's >90% sRGB, although VA's higher contrast is nice to have)
- FreeSync
- 1800R curvature
- WQHD resolution

But the cons kill it:
- 48Hz low-end FreeSync range = no frame doubling. 8Hz lower, and you'd have had the necessary 2,5x range …
- No USB hub? Come on!
- With the integrated charger in the stand, I also assume there's no VESA mount option.

Also, I assume the “300:1 contrast ratio” in the text is a typo, and that 3000:1 is correct? Unless this is a TN laptop panel from the early 2000s?
No HDR? Suppose it's not even possible since they're *still* using DP 1.2…
