We've seen a few high-end GPU launches in 2016, but the new graphics cards that have really piqued our interest are the upper-mid-range Radeon RX 480 and GeForce GTX 1060. Why? Well, prices are more affordable first and foremost, but the two cards are also intriguing as they serve as direct competitors.

Choice is a great thing to have, and while the top-end of the graphics space has been by and large dominated by team green in recent times, the £200-£300 arena is far more evenly contested. And there's no shortage of intrigue, either. Reference cards paint one picture, while partner cards provide another view, and in-game performance on the latest APIs has left us all scratching our heads as to what the future may really hold.

It's been fascinating to watch the battle unfold, and with numerous reviews out in the wild and stock availability becoming clearer, we reckon now's a good time to ask: AMD Radeon RX 480 or Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060? Let us know which you'd choose, and your reasons why, using the comments facility below.

480 thanks but 1060 is a lot more price competitive than I'd given Nvidia credit for, considering the hefty premiums for the next models up..
I'll go with the 480.
Lower price, more VRAM, basicly the same performance overall in DX11 as the 1060, but much better in DX12/Vulkan.
The 1060 has better power condumption, but i don't really care if its 120 or 170W.
I would pick the AMD card. Nvidia has too many proprietary technoligies involving their products. I like open standards so buyers can switch out components easier.

And it would definately be a partner card. The much lower noise levels make a big difference.
They are very close in DX11 but it looks like Pascal is no better than Maxwell when it comes to the next gen API's and Nvidia don't support FreeSync or Mantle. So I would take the RX 480 over the GTX1060.
480 of course, the G-sync situation means the GTX 1060 is a mockery of a mid-range offering.
