Introduction

Thinking about buying a netbook but swamped by the incredible number of machines that currently vie for your attention? Everyone's in on the act, from Dell to OCZ, and, most of the time, it's a case of a relatively fixed specification that centres around Intel's Atom N270 low-power chip.

ASUS can be thought of as the pioneer of the netbook, and its Eee PC line has been a resounding sales success around the world. Trouble is, there are so many Eee netbook derivatives - ASUS lists no less than 11 models boasting a 10-inch screen - that it's often hard to keep up.

One of the latest in a long line of Eees is the 1005HA that's more commonly known as the 'Seashell' model. It boasts an incredible 8.5hr battery life with the larger-capacity battery, thus ticking one of the most important boxes.

We take it for a spin, to see if it's the best netbook to date.
