Introduction

Graphics cards obviously cater for differing budgets. NVIDIA have a card line-up that entices all from the casual games-player to the hardcore, competitive gamer. At the very top of the tree sits the NVIDIA Geforce4 Ti 4600, a tour-de-force in the field of 3D processing.

Naturally. every respected graphics card manufacturer wants to highlight their card based on the powerful Ti 4600 GPU, in that respect, ASUS, the large Taiwanese manufacturing dynamo, are no different.

Shortly after the Ti 4600 was officially announced, most first-tier manufacturers were eager to put forward their designs for how the Ti 4600 should look. The majority simply used the effective reference design and attempted to get their product out to market quickly. After all, the reference design has proven to be a winner. ASUS, on the other hand, always seem to do things ever so slightly differently, and their reputation with respect to the quality of their motherboards is deserved. Often, ASUS-branded items are the benchmark to which all others aspire to.

ASUS' competence in motherboard manufacturing seems to have carried through to video cards, as it's often noted that their cards are amongst the most feature-laden of all. ASUS sometimes go a step further and complete their package by offering special video card drivers for enhanced performance, these have been met with a mixed reception in the past.

So it was with some eagerness that I took delivery of their interpretation of the Geforce4 Ti 4600. Today we're casting our critical eye over the ASUS V8460 Ultra Geforce4 Ti 4600. Let's now have a look at the actual card in a little greater detail.
