London, 26th July 2011 - The new generation of the Acer TravelMate Timeline 8x73 notebook series, was designed from the ground-up for no-compromise performance, superior security and trouble-free manageability, while offering extended productivity thanks to more than 8(+) hours of battery life.
Security is one of the key concerns for professional user; their notebooks carry valuable information and often irreplaceable data and are more exposed than desktops to data leakage and physical theft. This is why higher security with integrated management solutions is a top priority to protect users' investment. Acer equipped the TravelMate Timeline laptops with Acer ProShield security, a suite of essential security and manageability tools that integrates fundamental features in a unified user interface.
Acer ProShield secures the notebook from unwanted access from BIOS level all the way up to application level. It features pre-boot authentication (PBA) with BIOS/HDD password, alternative Windows log-on with built-in fingerprint reader, and TPM password for data protection. Critical files can be kept safe by encrypting and storing them in your own Personal Secure Drive (PSD). With the File Shredder utility users can permanently remove unwanted files or folders from the computer beyond recovery. Easy manageability is also provided. Acer BioProtection Fingerprint solution featuring pre-booth authentication solution secures the system from unauthorized access and offers data protection using cutting edge biometric technology together with Trusted Platform Module (TPM) solution to guarantee the integrity of the client platform. TPM also allows secure storage and reporting of security relevant metrics plus it detects changes to previous configurations. Through Acer Backup Manager, important data are kept secure also from accidents or crashes, allowing to back up data and files at ease, while Acer eRecovery Management provides recovery on-demand for complete peace of mind.
Integrated in the design of Acer TravelMate Timeline 8x73 notebooks is next generation DASP (Disk Anti-Shock Protection) technology that insulates the hard disk, providing protection and guaranteeing the physical integrity of your data. HDD is also soft-mounted onto the system to provide extra cushioning. The result is a significant improvement in preventing HDD failure and higher MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure).
To maintain the system temperature while performing faster, the new TravelMate Timeline feature the innovative Acer DustDefender technology, designed to prevent the accumulation of dust inside the system. A smart reversing mechanism in the cooling fan can push the dust out.
The TravelMate Timeline 8x73 are also well protected against the wear and tear of mobile life. The resilient case design with a Magnesium-Aluminum cage distributes evenly all external forces and can withstand extreme pressure. The metal alloy hinge comes with a reinforced coil for maximum hold strength, while the Autolock feature ensure your notebook lid is tightly secured for LCD protection.
Powered by the 2nd generation Intel® CoreTM processors the new TravelMate 8573 and 8473 allow to run business productivity applications 60% faster from previous generation while delivering smart performance that adapts to the task at hand, thus enabling more responsive multitasking and energy efficiency. Sharper images and richer colour for a remarkable visual performance are provided by Intel® HD Graphics 3000. These notebooks can also be equipped with discrete graphic options. Featuring NVIDIA® OptimusTM technology, NVIDIA GPUs boost graphic performance without impacting on battery life. In addition, multi-monitor support takes productivity to the next level, aiding multitasking.
Stunning presentations, with seamless video quality, accelerated web browsing and communication with unprecedented detail will help users increase productivity and deliver clearer and more captivating messages. What's more, thanks to Intel® Wireless Display technology, these notebooks can share presentations or videos on HD displays or TVs via an easy to set up wireless connection. Smooth HD video playback and exceptionally clear image and sound will make any presentation impressive.
Long lasting battery life is another highly sought after feature. The TravelMate Timeline 8x73 series can provide up to 8 hours battery life, so that it won't let you down in the middle of something important. In addition it features Acer PowerSmart long cycle battery, that ensures up to 3 times longer battery life cycles (1000 vs. 300 cycles) and maintain 80% capacity after 1000 cycle count. The battery will last longer, reducing the need for replacement.
To ensure users' can be as productive and as proactive as required by business, these notebooks they also offer a fast way to check important information via Acer InstantView. Acer InstantView is a Linux based light OS designed for fast boot up. Starting up in only 8 seconds, it allows to launch Calendar, Document, Email and Contacts almost immediately to quickly review information and increase business productivity.
The new TravelMate Timeline 8x73 series is available in two formats 35.5 (14") and 40 cm (15.6"), presenting razor-sharp images and enhanced readability through Acer ComfyView LED-backlit displays with 16:9 aspect ratio, 1366X768 HD resolution and high brightness. Made for a life on the go, they are also ultra-thin, just about one inch thick and ultra-light, with weight ranging from 2.3 kg of the 14.0" model to 2.6 kg for the 15.6".
Despite their lightness, these notebooks can house spacious hard disks with up to 750 GB of capacity, providing ample room for storing ever growing digital archives while allowing the system to boot up and load applications faster. Furthermore, they can be equipped with an additional 128GB Solid State Drive that can be used as boot/OS partition to boost the system. The DVD-Super Multi double-layer drive and integrated multi-in-1 card reader supporting the most used formats simplify data sharing and provide more storage options. These notebooks can also count on up to 8 GB of advanced DDR3 memory that dramatically increases data bandwidths allowing faster multitasking and lowers power consumption.
The TravelMate Timeline 8x73 models also ensure docking convenience thanks to the Acer ProDock featuring advanced I/O ports such as USB 3.0/2.0 ports, Display Port, DVI port, HDMI port, VGA port, and ergonomic design for secured and tangle-free cable management. Measuring 38cm (W) x 16cm (L) x 3cm (H), Acer ProDock has compact design that fits any space requirement and provides single connect capability.
With the USB 3.0 port users can transfer data to and from external devices 10 times faster than before. Plus, thanks to Power-Off USB Charging you can charge your smartphone or other USB devices without turning on the laptop. As your laptop becomes your charging station you can travel even lighter because there is no longer need to carry along power adapters.
The design of the new TravelMate evokes quality and professionalism. Neat lines and slim profile all add up to create a feel of efficiency and timeless style. User experience is enhanced by carefully chosen details. The Acer FineTouch keyboard with extra key travel distance was designed for a more comfortable typing experience, further enhanced by the numeric keypad on the 8573 model. The unique key shape is designed to avoid mis-typing and the accumulation of the dust, while space and arrow keys have a convex shape making them instantly recognizable by touch. The oversized touchpad offer more precise control and next generation multi-touch permits to perform more functions. The engraved scrolling area ensures easier navigation. Productivity hot keys are designed to efficiently access frequently-used functions such as backup, application launch, volume mute, and wireless on/off switch.

The Acer TravelMate Timeline 8x73 will be available mid August with an RRP starting from £499 ex Vat (TM8473T) and £599 ex Vat (TM8573TG).
