Gigabyte and Intel have kicked off a new cashback bundle promotion here in the UK. The deal invites customers to buy both a Gigabyte Z97 or X99 motherboard and Intel Core CPU and earn as much as £90 cashback.

This new promotion is running in parallel with Gigabyte's 'Buy One, get TWO!' promotion announced exactly a month earlier. As a reminder, that is an interesting promotional 'upgrade warranty' offer which "provides the customer the right to exchange their 9 Series Black Edition motherboard within three years of the purchase date for one model from a future series".

Looking again at the new offer, of course there are Ts & Cs about which motherboards and processors qualify for the cashback amounts and how much buyers can expect to get back. To keep it simple I have reproduced Gigabyte's two tables of motherboards and Intel processors (above and below) with the cashback amounts indicted next to the combo.

Broadly speaking Gigabyte's Z97 and X99 G1 Gaming, OC and UltraDurable (and UltraDurable Black Edition) motherboards are all included in the offer. The best cashback you can get if from buying an X99 OC motherboard with Intel i7 5960X chip, reaping the full £90 in return. Unfortunately many board/chip combos earn cashback as low as £22.50 – but that's still better than none if you were going to buy such a combo anyway.

This Gigabyte and Intel cashback promotion is in effect now until 27th December 2014. Full terms and conditions are available here.

It seems to be the season for these offers - I found this similar offer over at CCL…

Another deal to try and shift the overpriced CPUs in Intels stock.

There's little pressure to upgrade CPUs these days really. Mine's over 3 years old now, & I don't envisage upgrading again for at least a couple of years, maybe more.
Never worked out what cashback is about anyway… “You pay X and we give you 20% of it back”??!! Whassat all about? Why not just drop the price by 20%, I keep my money and you get my custom?

I guess they invest it for a short while before giving it back and keep the interest, or something?

Not really looking for an upgrade and pretty happy with my AMD/MSI ensemble for now, but I'm more interested by the future upgrade deal, myself.

They are counting on you forgetting to claim in the right time period or not being aware of the promotion! Whereas if they offered everyone a price cut, everyone would benefit automatically.
